How to sign up for driving school — a complete guide

Signing up for driving school in the Czech Republic follows a clearly defined process under Act No. 247/2000 Coll. on professional competence in road transport. The good news: at MeGo we have simplified the whole thing into three steps you can manage in a single afternoon — and the first one happens entirely online.

You need three things for enrolment: a completed driving-school application, a valid medical certificate of fitness to drive a motor vehicle, and proof of identity. Our online system generates the application and the medical form for you automatically, so you don't have to track down any templates or PDFs.

When can I start the Category B driving licence?

You can start the course at age 17.5 and take the final exam on your 18th birthday. The L17 programme lets you start even earlier — from age 15.5, with the final exam at 17 (you then drive with a registered mentor until you turn 18). Minors need a parent/guardian's signature on the application.

There's no need to wait until you're 18 — the sooner you start, the sooner you're behind the wheel. Most students complete the course in 2–3 months.

Enrolment in 3 steps

You start online from home — but you complete enrolment and sign the binding application in person at our office.

Frequent enrolment questions

Where do I get the medical certificate?

Your general practitioner will issue the medical certificate of driving fitness. The cost is usually 500–1,000 CZK. The certificate must not be older than 90 days on the day you submit your application to the municipal office. Our online system generates the form for the doctor after you fill in the application.

Can I apply online?

Yes. The easiest way is to fill in the application in our online system. It will automatically generate all the documents you need to print — the application and the medical form. After getting the medical certificate you come to our office for registration. The online step is a non-binding pre-registration; the signed application is submitted in person at the office and cannot be sent by post, e-mail or dropped into a mailbox.

What's the minimum age for signing up?

You can start the Category B course from age 17.5 and take the exam when you turn 18 (for the L17 programme you can start at 15.5 and take the exam at 17). Minors need the consent of a legal guardian.

How soon can I start the course?

Once your application and medical certificate are ready, you can start immediately. At the registration meeting we complete enrolment and add you to the nearest course. You usually start within a few days.

Can I cancel the course after enrolling?

After the binding application is submitted, cancellation is subject to fees under our Terms and Conditions. We recommend thinking it through before enrolling. Any questions — just give us a call and we'll walk you through it.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept bank transfer, card and cash in the office. The MeGo Instalments course lets you split the price into 3 interest-free parts.

Do I need to speak Czech?

No — our English-speaking instructor Anna Hodgson teaches the full course in English. English study materials and the MeGo Playbook are included. For the first driving exam we provide a certified interpreter.
