Mandatory car equipment — the 2026 list
Every motor vehicle registered in the Czech Republic must carry a defined set of safety equipment. The list is set by Decree No. 341/2014 Coll. on technical roadworthiness of vehicles, in the wording amended by Decree No. 153/2023 Coll. Police can check it at any traffic stop or during a roadside emergency, and a missing item is treated as an administrative offence under Act No. 361/2000 Coll.

First aid kit
- Type I (passenger car), per Decree 341/2014 Coll.
- Must be valid — check expiry on package
- Keep in reach: glovebox or under front seat
- Fine: up to 2,000 CZK on the spot
Warning triangle
- ECE Reg. 27 approved (homologation mark)
- Place 50 m behind car (100 m on motorway)
- Typically stored in boot
- Fine: up to 2,000 CZK
Hi-vis vest
- EN ISO 20471 (or older EN 471)
- Mandatory for driver — keep within reach from seat
- Recommended for all passengers
- Fine: up to 2,000 CZK
Spare tyre / repair kit
- Option A: full-size or space-saver spare + jack + wheel wrench
- Option B: tyre repair kit (sealant + compressor)
- Option C: roadside assistance contract
- Fine for missing all three: up to 2,000 CZK
Winter tyres
- Mandatory 1 Nov – 31 Mar if snow/ice on roads
- Marking: M+S, 3PMSF snowflake
- Min. tread depth 4 mm (vs 1.6 mm summer)
- Fine: up to 2,000 CZK + risk of accident
Recommended (not mandatory)
- Spare bulbs set — fine if light not working
- Fire extinguisher (only HGV/bus mandatory)

Are spare bulbs still mandatory?
No. Spare bulbs are no longer mandatory since 2018. They are still recommended because driving with a non-working light is a 2,000 CZK fine.
How much is the fine for missing equipment?
Police can issue an on-the-spot fine of up to 2,000 CZK per missing item. Driving without winter tyres in winter conditions can lead to additional fines if you cause traffic obstruction.
Where to buy a complete kit?
Any car-parts retailer (AAA Auto Parts, MotoFocus, ATU). A complete legal kit costs around 600–1,200 CZK. Always check expiry on the first aid kit.
